San Francisco Team joins allies to urge city to take bold steps
On Monday, July 22nd, San Francisco's District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman held a hearing on the city’s Climate Emergency response at the Board of Supervisors Land Use and Transportation Committee. The hearing focused on high-priority strategies to achieve deep greenhouse gas emission reductions by 2030, as detailed in a newly-published report, Focus 2030: A Pathway to Net Zero Emissions(Climate Report, July 2019), from the Department of the Environment.
For Mothers Out Front San Francisco, this was an important first step in implementing steps toward action addressing the climate crisis in San Francisco—a hearing on a report detailing where we are, as well as goals. At the beginning of the hearing the room was packed; by the time we testified over four hours later, our row previously full of Mothers Out Front had dwindled down to three. We commented on the need for a massive mobilization and cooperation to ensure a livable climate for our children, as well as making San Francisco a place that is environmentally friendly enough to attract and keep families here.
